New Spacers Used With Larger Valve Springs

Usage:

All Naturally Aspirated 3208 Engines

Reference: Reference Article: "Larger Valve Springs," Engine News, May 20, 1981, Page 5.

Description of Change: In the reference article, a new 9N5565 Spacer was shown. This 9N5565 Spacer has now been canceled. It was found that there were 9N5565 Spacers in the parts system with two different outside diameters. Some had an outside diameter of 40.0 mm (1.57"). Others had an outside diameter of 39.0 mm (1.53"). To make sure the spacer with the correct diameter is used, a new spacer with a 39.0 mm (1.53") diameter is now available.

Adaptable As: The new 1W9897 Spacer is a direct replacement for the former 9N5565 Spacer, which is canceled. The 9N5565 Spacers in the dealers parts system can still be used, but the outside diameter must be measured first. Spacers that are 40.0 mm (1.57") diameter must not be used with the 9N2362 Cylinder Head. This spacer will not fit flat on these cylinder heads and will cause a wrong preload to be put on the valve springs when assembly is made. The new 1W9897 Spacer or a 9N5565 Spacer with a 39.0 mm (1.53") diameter can be used on the 9N2362 Cylinder Head.

9N5565 Spacers with a diameter of 40.0 mm (1.57") can be used on all other cylinder heads.

NOTICE

All the new parts must be used when a replacement is made of the former parts. Also, all the former retainers, valve springs, fuel nozzle clamp assemblies, washers and spacers on a cylinder head must be changed at the same time.
