ENGINE NEWS; AUGUST 26, 1981, PAGES 1-3.

In the article, "New Spanner Wrenches Needed To Install Bearings On Marine Transmission Shafts," the part number of the 7H7529 Nut used in Step 2 is not correct. The correct part number is 7H7539 Nut.

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Four new spanner wrenches and four new fabricated tools are needed for service of the ahead and astern shafts in 7231 and 7241 Marine Transmissions. The new tools are 6V3132, 6V3133, 6V3134 and 6V3135 Spanner Wrenches; FT1506 Plate and FT1508, FT1510 and FT1512 Spacers.

The bearing installation procedures follow. The tools needed are shown in the chart.

1. Assemble the Ahead Clutch Shaft with roller bearing and transfer gear according to the Service Manual.

2. Install 7H7529 Nut, 4K684 Washer, FT1506 Plate (with the step toward the shaft), the tapered bearings, FT1508 Spacer (with the counterbore toward the bearings), 5P2998 Hydraulic Puller, 4K684 Washer, 3K9770 Nut, and 9S5558 Stud on the Ahead Clutch Shaft as shown.

3. Push the bearings onto the shaft until they make contact with the transfer gear.

4. Remove the tooling and install the spanner nut.

5. Use 6V3132 Spanner Wrench (6V3134 Spanner Wrench) to tighten the nut to a minimum torque of 680 N·m (500 lb ft).
