Check Operation Of Hydramechanical Shutoff At Specific Intervals

Usage:

D379 (68B);
D398 (66B);
D399 (35B) Industrial Engines

The hydramechanical shutoff used on the above engines can prevent engine damage if there is loss of oil pressure, high coolant temperature, or an engine overspeed.

It is Caterpillar's recommendation that the operation of the shutoff be checked every 500 service hours or every three months.

To check the operation of the hydramechanical shutoff, pull the emergency manual shutoff knob. This will activate both the rack shutoff and the air inlet shutoffs. Be sure to reset the inlet shutoffs on the right and left sides of the engine before it is started again.
