Cooling System Cleaner Removes Rust And Corrosion

Usage:

All Caterpillar Diesel Engines

The 6V4511 Cooling System Cleaner is a solvent which will remove rust, corrosion and debris from cooling systems for Caterpillar Diesel Engines.

The cleaner comes in a 1.9 liter (1/2 gallon) quantity, and is used in quantities of 1.9 liter (1/2 gallon) for every 30.3 liter (8 gallons) of cooling system capacity. It is added to the cooling system while the engine is in operation, and it is kept in the cooling system for 250 SMU or 30 days. Then, the cooling system is drained and flushed with clean water before coolant and cooling system conditioner are added. It is Caterpillar's recommendation that the 6V4511 Cooling System Cleaner be used one time a year or one time every two years if cooling system conditioner is used.

The 6V4511 Cooling System Cleaner can be used with glycol coolants. It must not be used with Dowtherm 209 Full-Fill.

the 6V4511 Cooling System Cleaner is not a strong solvent. If any of the indications which follow are present, special solvents and/or procedures must be used.

... Radiator tubes closed by rust corrosion or debris.
... Engine runs too hot, but the fan belt, the thermostat and the water pump all work correctly.
... Visible rust and green deposit (chromium hydroxide) on the radiator cap and in the coolant. The coolant is so dirty that an antifreeze gauge can not be read.

More information on cooling systems can be found in "Questions and Answers About Cylinder Wall Pitting," Form No. PEDP1101.
