CAUTION: Procedure For Adjustment Of Fuel Rack Setting On Hydramechanical Governors Has Been Changed

Usage:

All D353 Industrial And Marine Engines Equipped With Hydramechanical Governors

The procedure for adjustment of the fuel rack has been changed for the hydramechanical governors on D353 Industrial and Marine Engines.

DO NOT use the 9S8518 Plug and 9S8521 Rod to retract (push in) the speed limiter plunger. If the speed limiter plunger is retracted, the compression of a spring can cause the rack setting indication to be approximately 1.3 mm (.05") less than the actual setting.

For this reason, make the changes that follow in the respective publications.

In the "Systems Operation Testing And Adjusting" section of the D353 Industrial and Marine Engine Service Manual, Form No. SEBR0508, the procedure is given on pages 41 and 42.

Under "Fuel Rack Setting," change Step 2 to read, "2. With engine stopped, disconnect the governor control linkage at the most convenient location, so the governor control lever (10) moves freely. Remove bolt (8) and cover (11)."

Put a mark through Step 4 and the NOTE which follows.

Change Step 6 to read., "6. Move the governor control lever against the speed limiter."

Change Step 13 to read, "13. Install the hydraulic air fuel ratio control and cover (11)."

In "Using 8S2305, 9S228 and 9S240 Rack Position Tool Groups," Special Instruction, Form No. SEHS6995-02, changes must be made on page 11.

Put a mark through 9S8518 and 9S8521 part numbers in Step 1.

Change Step 2 to read, "2. Remove plug (8) and cover (9)."

Change Step 3 to read, "3. Install rod (1) in adapter (2) so the threaded contact point is on the dial indicator end of adapter (2). Install adapter (2) in the hole for plug (8). Fasten the clip end of tester (7) to the brass screw terminal on the governor housing. Fasten the other end to a good ground. Move the governor control lever against the speed limiter and use the procedure which follows:"
