Wrong Installation Of Oil Cooler Gasket Can Cause High Oil Temperatures

Usage:

1100, 3100, 3200 Series Engines

During assembly of the oil cooler group for the above engines, a 9L6420 Gasket must be installed between the oil filter base and the oil cooler. This gasket has an indexing point (see the illustration), which must be up and toward the front of the engine. Wrong installation of the gasket (with the indexing point down and toward the rear) will let the oil flow directly into the filter and through the engine with little or no flow through the cooler. This can cause high oil temperatures. For this reason, it is important to install the 9L6420 Gasket correctly during assembly of the oil cooler. Be sure the indexing point on the gasket is up and toward the front of the engine. Correct installation of the gasket is shown in the Service Manual for the engine.
