Usage:
The Bi-Modal Reader-Printer
The microfiche reader-printer is one of the most important tools used with the Service Information Retrieval System libraries. Some reader-printers have one characteristic which is very useful. They are bi-modal. That is, they have the ability to make paper copies from either negative or positive fiche. Negative fiche are black. See Illustration 1. Positive fiche are clear. See Illustration 2. Because Caterpillar libraries have both negative and positive microfiche, the single-mode reader-printer is not practical.

It is the recommendation of Caterpillar that dealers install the bi-modal reader-printers in areas where personnel use the SIRS, NPR, Parts Books and Service Manual libraries on the same viewing equipment. The reasons are basic-the screen is easy to read, the photos are clear and copies are black type on white paper.
Reader-printers are not available from Caterpillar for dealer purchase. An office equipment dealer in your area will give you his recommendation of a bi-modal reader-printer.
