New Liner Seat Inserts For Spacer Plate Cylinder Blocks Are Made Of Stainless Steel

Usage:

D353 Engines

Description of Change: New liner seat inserts are available for the repair of damaged spacer plate cylinder blocks used in D353 Engines. The new inserts, which are made of stainless steel, are harder and have better resistance to wear and corrosion than the inserts made of iron. The steel inserts are made to precision tolerances; they are installed with a slip-fit in the counterbores, and are not machined after installation. For this reason, the counterbores must be carefully machined to exact dimensions. The new inserts also have a chamfer around the outside diameter at the bottom. The chamfer gives clearance for a radius in the bottom of the counterbore to keep stresses at a minimum in the cylinder block.

Because of the new insert design and the accuracy necessary during machine work on the cylinder block, some new tools are needed in addition to existing tools for counterbore machine work. The new special instruction form shown in the chart gives complete information about tools needed and procedures to use for installation of the new liner seat inserts in the engine.

Adaptable To: All D353 Engines with spacer plate cylinder blocks.

NOTE: Because the new inserts have a smaller outside diameter, they can not be installed in spacer plate cylinder blocks that have iron inserts installed.
