--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------
Description of Change: A new governor housing is used in the governor and fuel injection pump groups for all 3208 Engines. The new housing uses a steel bushing in the outer bore for the governor control shaft to prevent wear. Formerly, there was no bushing in the bore for the governor control shaft. It was possible for movement of the control shaft to cause wear in the bore, which let air get into the fuel in the governor, or too much fuel flow back to the transfer pump inlet. This causes low fuel pressure at low idle speed.
Adaptable As: The new 8N3946 Housing Assembly is a direct replacement for the former 6N7524 Housing Assembly which has been canceled. If desired, the 8N3945 Bushing can be installed in earlier governor housing assemblies.
-
- ... Remove the governor from the fuel injection pump; then disassemble it. See the Disassembly and Assembly Service Manual.
- ... Remove the lip-type seal from the governor control lever bore, then make the bore in the governor housing to the dimension shown in the Illustration.
Modification to former governor housing and installation of 8N3945 Bushing and 4N2786 Seal.- ... Install the 8N3945 Bushing in the housing. Make sure the tapered end of the bushing is toward the inside of the housing and the opposite side of the bushing is even with the counterbore in the housing.
- ... Install a new 4N2786 Seal in the housing. Make sure the lip of the seal is toward the inside of the housing.
- ... Assemble the governor and install it on the fuel injection pump.
- ... Remove the governor from the fuel injection pump; then disassemble it. See the Disassembly and Assembly Service Manual.
