New Specification For Installation Of Camshaft Front Bearing In Cylinder Block

Usage:

3304 and 3306 Industrial, Marine and Truck Engines

Description of Change: A change has been made to the specification for installation of the camshaft front bearing in cylinder blocks for the above models. The new specification is to install the 9M5477 Bearing so the oil holes are horizontal and the joint (junction) in the bearing is at the top, with a rotation tolerance of 15° in either direction. In this position, the maximum surface area of the bearing is at the bottom, which is the location of the heaviest load on the bearing. This will permit maximum service life from the bearing. Formerly, the bearing was installed with the oil hole in the bearing in alignment with the oil hole in the cylinder block. Since the bearing has an oil supply groove around the outside, alignment of the oil holes in the cylinder block and the bearing is not necessary for oil to flow into the bearing.

Adaptable To: All 3304 and 3306 Engines. The new specification will be shown in Service Manuals when revisions are made.
