Usage:
3208 Truck Engines 32Y8395-12395
When an auxiliary bypass type oil filter is to be installed on any of the above 3208 Truck Engines, check to be sure the passage in the 9L9385 Fitting on the oil cooler is open. Some of the above engines have been found where too much sealant was used on this fitting at assembly, and the passage in the fitting was plugged (closed). Also, extra sealant in the coils of the 9L9188 Spring, which has a seat in the end of the fitting, can have an effect on operation of the bypass valve.
The 9L9385 Fitting can be checked by removal of the 9L9389 Cap when the engine is stopped. If some oil drains out, the passage in the fitting is open. If no oil drains through the fitting, the passage is plugged, and the fitting and spring must be removed. Either clean the fitting and spring thoroughly to remove all sealant, or install a new fitting and/or spring.
Inspection of the 9L9385 Fitting is important when an auxiliary bypass type filter is installed. This fitting is the connection for the supply line to the filter and, if the passage in the fitting is not open, oil cannot flow into the filter. Since the amount of oil needed to fill the filter must be added to the engine crankcase in addition to its normal capacity, the oil must flow into the filter, or the crankcase oil level will be too high. A high oil level can cause engine damage.
