Inspection Of Parts Stocks Of 9L9200 Oil Filters

Usage:

3208 Industrial, Marine, and Truck Engines

SUPPLEMENT: 08/08/79

ENGINE NEWS, JUNE 6, 1979, PAGE 4.

Please add a note to the article, "Inspection of Parts Stocks Of 9L9200 Oil Filters", to refer to this supplement. The last sentence regarding notification of dealers about the possibility of unsatisfactory filters in parts stocks should state that only Cat dealers in Canada and TEPS dealers in Canada were notified about this situation.

Other dealers were not notified because it is believed that all unsatisfactory filters are in Canada. However, for your information, unsatisfactory 9L9200 Filter Assemblies can easily be identified as follows:

First, the installation instructions are printed in French and English, and have the statement "Made In Canada". This statement should also appear on the carton. If you find one of these filters, check the date code. The date code has four numbers. If the last number is a "6", "7", or "8", the filter is not satisfactory.

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

We have asked our dealers to destroy certain parts stocks of 9L9200 Oil Filter Assemblies. This filter is used on 3208 Truck, Industrial, and Marine Engines.

Leakage can occur around some filters due to incorrectly cut threads, or a mounting gasket that is not properly retained in its groove. Our dealers have been notified of this situation and instructed as to how to identify the unsatisfactory filters.
