Usage:
All Caterpillar Engines Except D334, D336 and 1674 Engines
A 6V87 Gauge (see the illustration) is available to measure valve stem wear on the four most common valve stem diameters used in Caterpillar Engines. The 6V87 Gauge can be used to measure a group of valves more quickly than with a micrometer. The gauge has four precision slots (openings) which are "Use Again" and "Do Not Use Again" gauges. A card with the gauge tells which slot to use. If the correct slot slides over the valve stem, the valve stem is worn too much to be used again. A micrometer will still be needed to measure valve stem diameters for D334, D336 and 1674 Engines. A GUIDELINE FOR REUSABLE PARTS-VALVE AND VALVE SPRING SPECIFICATIONS, Form Number SEBF8034 also is available to give the "Use Again" stem diameters for all Caterpillar engine valves.
