--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Late last year Caterpillar Tractor Co. introduced a computerized Product Information System to U.S. and Canadian Caterpillar dealers, and to a few European dealers. Several other Caterpillar dealers also have access to this system via Telex into the Caterpillar Worldwide Information System.

The Product Information System consolidates information contained in several Caterpillar corporate records. The main purpose of this system is to help Caterpillar and its dealers keep a record of all Caterpillar Truck Engines in each Caterpillar dealer's territory. However, the benefits and cost savings will not be fully realized if the system is not continuously updated.

Each Caterpillar dealer can do this by getting the changes from his TEPS dealers, and updating the system on his own computer terminal. Ask your customers to inform you every time they make a major modification to the engine, or when they sell or dispose of it or the truck. Let them know you are always interested in their engines in this regard, and that this important data is entered into the Product Information System by many Caterpillar dealers.

Caterpillar dealers with the Product Information System can update the product data on truck engines that have been built in the last 11 years. For example, if a customer tells you his truck has been moved to a different location or sold, relay this to your Caterpillar dealer. He will change this information on the computer terminal at his store. See illustration.

This screen lists the owner's name and address by engine number. Caterpillar dealers can change this if they know the new name and/or address.

Note also that the Engine Arrangement No. "4W3607" is listed. This is the arrangement number listed in the Parts Book.
