Usage:
For the past several months, some Special Instructions have been published in a new format. This new format uses line drawings and a minimum amount of single language copy. This format is identified as a Special Instruction, but has a unique form number prefix of SELS.
The new format will be used primarily for installation instructions of field-installed parts and attachments. It will not be used if detailed written procedures and/or photographs are needed.
This format has several features not normally found in Special Instructions. One is use of oversized sheets as necessary (up to 17 " × 22"). Another feature is the use of a complete parts list. This should assist installation of groups that are serviced as separate parts (especially those not listed in Column 3 of the NPR).
Special Instructions in the new format should be filed with other Special Instructions either by form number or SMCS code number. If filed by form number, it is recommended that all Special Instructions be filed alpha-numerically (letter prefix and number suffix).
Comments and constructive criticism should be forwarded to Technical Publications through your normal contact division.
