Be Sure Correct Piston Rings Are Used On 3400 Series Engines
Usage:
Reports indicate that some engines have been damaged because the wrong piston rings were installed during a rebuild. Three different top piston rings are available for 3400 Series Engines. They are:
-
- ... The 3.05 mm (.120") thick chrome top ring.
- ... The 3.84 mm (.151") thick plasma layer top ring.
- ... The 3.84 mm (.151") thick chrome top ring.
- ... The 3.05 mm (.120") thick chrome top ring.
Damage can result if a 3.05 mm (.120") thick top ring is installed on a piston designed for a 3.84 mm (.151 ") thick top ring. The chart cross references piston body assemblies, ring groups and top rings for 3400 Series Engines.
