Be Sure Correct Piston Rings Are Used On 3400 Series Engines

Usage:

Reports indicate that some engines have been damaged because the wrong piston rings were installed during a rebuild. Three different top piston rings are available for 3400 Series Engines. They are:

... The 3.05 mm (.120") thick chrome top ring.
... The 3.84 mm (.151") thick plasma layer top ring.
... The 3.84 mm (.151") thick chrome top ring.

Damage can result if a 3.05 mm (.120") thick top ring is installed on a piston designed for a 3.84 mm (.151 ") thick top ring. The chart cross references piston body assemblies, ring groups and top rings for 3400 Series Engines.

NOTICE

Using piston body assemblies, ring groups and top rings together, other than what is shown in the chart, can result in damage to the engine.
