Changes To Naturally Aspirated Truck Engines For 1985

Usage:

3208 Truck Engines (51Z)

The basic engine arrangements for the 3208 Truck Engines (51Z) have been changed for 1985. The changes were made so the engines would meet emission requirements for 1985. These changes include a new fuel injection nozzle assembly, piston and rod groups and the fuel pump drive groups on some engines.

The new 7W3710 Nozzle Assembly is used in these engines for 1985. A new 9L9099 Seal is used with the new 7W3710 Nozzle Assembly. The new 9L9099 Seal is black in color.

Some engine arrangements have rod and piston groups that give higher compression ratios. These engines are shown in Chart A.

These engines for 1985 use two fuel injection pump and governor drive groups. Both drive groups have an automatic timing advance unit. The drive groups and degrees of advance are shown in Chart B.

The model year of the engine is listed on the emission decal on the valve cover. The engine or engine parts should not be modified in any way. Parts for 1984 and earlier engines are still available.
