Important Differences In Engine Arrangements On 3208 Engines Equipped With Turbochargers

Usage:

There are many important differences in the above engines. For best results on parts service orders, always use the correct parts book information for a particular engine arrangement and engine serial number.

The 3208 Engines equipped with turbochargers can be divided into two general groups; those rated at or less than 168 kW (225 hp) and those rated at more than 168 kW (225 hp). The following chart gives information on the differences in these engines.

In addition, several different turbochargers are used on these engines. Different turbocharger wheels and housings are used with different horsepower ratings to obtain the best fuel efficiency and lowest exhaust emissions.

The 3208 Engines equipped with turbochargers, use the Sleeve Metering Fuel System (SMFS). This fuel system is used in different configurations for different applications, horsepower ranges and emission requirements.

Several different camshaft and lifter arrangements can also be ordered for these 3208 Engines equipped with turbochargers. See the article in this issue of Service Magazine for additional information on these arrangements.

All of the above reasons show the importance of using the correct parts book, engine arrangement and engine serial number when ordering replacement parts for 3208 Engines equipped with turbochargers.
