TRUCK ENGINE NEWS, NOVEMBER 7, 1984, PAGES 4 AND 5. In the article "New High Alloy Material Is Used In Cylinder Head Assemblies " Chart A is incorrect, it should be.
--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------
Description of Change: A new, high alloy material is used in cylinder head castings for the truck engines listd above. The new material is more resistant to thermal fatigue cracking than previous materials.
Some truck engines were equipped with cylinder head assemblies made of compacted graphite iron. These cylinder head assemblies were used in direct injection (DI) truck engines, but should not be used in precombustion chamber (PC) truck engines. The new cylinder head assemblies made of high alloy material can be used in both direct injection and precombustion chamber truck engines.
Adaptable As: The new cylinder head assemblies with high alloy materials, are direct replacements for the former cylinder head assemblies made of compacted graphite iron and gray iron as shown in Chart A.
NOTICE |
---|
Do not install compacted graphite iron cylinder heads on 3400 Series Precombustion Chamber Truck Engines.

The cylinder head assemblies are in effect as shown in Chart B.
