Higher Compression Pistons Can Help Reduce White Exhaust Smoke During Cold Weather Starts

Usage:

3208 NA Truck Engines With 138 kW (185 hp) Rating

Reference: In the Service Magazine, March 5, 1984, the article "Causes Of White Exhaust Smoke During Cold Weather Starts And Ways To Reduce It " gives suggestions for reducing white smoke during cold weather starts.

Description of Change:

Another method not mentioned in the article is to use straight (unblended) No. 1 diesel fuel without cetane improvers or other additives.

If the suggestions and corrections in the Reference Article, or No. 1 diesel fuel does not reduce this white smoke to an acceptable level, pistons with 18.2:1 compression ratio can be installed in 138 kW (185 hp) 3208 NA Truck Engines.

Adaptable As: The new pistons with 18.2:1 compression ratio are direct replacements for the pistons with 16.5:1 compression ration shown in the chart.
