New Ammeter And Ammeter Calibrator Group Available

Usage:

A new clamp-on type ammeter is available that can be used to measure the current on all Caterpillar products. The new 8T900 Ammeter can check currents up to 1200 amperes. The former 6V4910 Ammeter could only check currents up to 1000 amperes. Also, the new ammeter does not need a correction chart to read the current. The former ammeter needs a chart to convert the reading for current levels above 500 amperes.

A new correction label is available for use on the former 6V4910 Ammeter. Put Correction Label, Form SEES5658, on the handle of the former ammeter as shown in Illustration 2.

A new 6V6180 Ammeter Calibrator Group is available to check the accuracy of Caterpillar clamp-on type ammeters. The new calibrator group is similar to the 5P8608 Calibrator Group, but it can be used to check the 6V4910 and 8T900 Digital Ammeters, in addition to the other clamp-on type ammeters and the electrical system tester.

The new group has two calibration coils: One for use with the 6V4910 and 8T900 Digital Ammeter, and the other for use with the 2P5540 and 5P969 Ammeter Groups and the 5P300 Electrical System Tester Group. When an ammeter or electrical tester is to be checked, be sure to use the correct calibration coil for the unit, as shown in the chart. If the wrong coil is used, either the unit will not fit, or the test results will be wrong. A Special Instruction, Form SMHS7574-01, gives complete information for use of the 6V6180 Ammeter Calibrator Group. The new 6V6124 Calibration Coil is also available separately, and can be used with the former 5P8608 Calibrator Group.
