Usage:
3406 Truck Engines
Description of Change: New adapter assemblies are available for use in the cylinder head groups on the above engines. Less torque is used to install these adapters in the cylinder head. Because less torque is used, damage to the cylinder head and/or adapter can be prevented. Formerly, if too much torque was used to tighten the adapter, damage to the cylinder head and/or adapter could result.
New clamps and sleeves are used with these new adapters to hold the fuel nozzles and valve bodies in position. Formerly, nuts were used.
Adaptable As: The new adapter assemblies are direct replacements for the former adapter assemblies when used with the other parts shown in the chart.
When the new adapter assembly is installed in the cylinder head, it should be tightened to a torque of 135 ± 5 N·m (100 ± 4 lb ft). Tighten the bolts that hold the clamp in position to a torque of 31 ± N·m(23 ± 5 lb ft).
NOTE: Make sure the concave surface of the clamp is toward the sleeve as shown in Illustration 2.
