Description of Change: A new water temperature regulator is available for use in 3406 Truck Engines during cold weather operation. The new regulator opens at 88 °C (190°F) in comparison with the former regulator that opens at 82 °C (180°F). This will help prevent engine overcooling that results in insufficient cab heat and a reduction in fuel mileage. The reference article gives an additional method to help prevent engine overcooling. For best results, also close the vent hole in the water temperature regulator cover when the new regulator is installed. See the reference article for the correct procedure.

Adaptable As: The new 4W4842 Water Temperature Regulator is a direct replacement for the former 9N3720 Water Temperature Regulator.

When the new regulator is installed, make adjustments or replacements of the controls for the attachments shown in the chart.
