New Fuel Nozzle Adapters Used

Usage:

All 3406 And 3408 D.I. Truck Engines

Description of Change: New fuel nozzle adapters are now used in the cylinder head groups on the above engines. The new adapters are made from a new steel with no lead in it. This new steel will give the nozzle adapter a longer service life.

Formerly, the nozzle adapters were made from a leaded steel. Reports show that the lead in this steel was possibly the cause of cracks in the former adapters.

Adaptable To: The new nozzle adapters are direct replacements for the former nozzle adapters as shown in the chart.

Some of the former 1W7884 and 1W7885 Nozzle Adapters were made with the new steel. These can be identified by the marks:

1W7884 - #12, 13, 14 etc.
1W7885 - #8, 9, 10 etc.

Those former adapters with numbers below the ones shown are made with the former steel.

Our recommendation is that the adapters made with the new steel be installed in engines, in place of adapters made with the former steel.
