Fabricated Bracket Decreases Stress On Refrigerant Compressor Bracket

Usage:

3406 Truck Engines Equipped With Refrigerant Compressors For Air Conditioners

There have been reports of failures of 9N3243 Brackets in the 9N5033 Refrigerant Compressor Mounting Groups on 3406 Engines so equipped. Analysis has shown that vibration of the bracket during engine operation causes the failure. Also, vibration of the 9N3243 Bracket can cause failures of other parts such as the 4N4941 Alternator Adjustment Rod and the 9N409 Alternator Bracket.

A fabricated bracket can be installed to give added support for the refrigerant compressor. Use of this bracket will decrease possible vibration of the 9N3243 Bracket and give it extended service life.

Illustrations 1, 2 and 3 show the dimensions and specifications for the fabricated bracket. The bracket is fastened on the top two bolts of the fan drive bracket and to the refrigerant compressor as shown in Illustration 4.
