New Water Pump Has Improved Seal

Usage:

3406 Truck Engines

Description of Change: A new basic water pump group is used on 3406 Engines. The new pump uses a new seal and impeller. The new seal has a hexagonal shape drive, in comparison with the tang (ear) type drive on the former seal. Wear around the tang of the former seal caused the seal to not be driven correctly. The result of this was leakage around the face of the seal and between the shaft and the seal. The new impeller has a larger diameter counterbore to fit the diameter of the new seal.

Modification of 4N3004 Impeller to use with the new seal.

Adaptable As: Direct replacement when the necessary parts are used together. The new parts are in effect with the serial numbers shown in the chart. If desired, the counterbore in the former 4N3004 Impeller can be machined to the larger diameter as shown, for use with the new seal. The depth of the counterbore is not changed. In effect, this changes the former impeller to the new impeller.

The former 6N9312 Seal Group is still available for use in other applications, but the recommendation is to use the new 2W9101 Seal Group (with either the new impeller or a modification of the former impeller) for 3406 Engines.
