Crankshaft Has Step At Front Of No. 1 Main Bearing Journal

Usage:

1693 Truck Engines

Description of Change:

NOTE: Put a mark through the October 22, 1980 Engine News article, "Crankshaft Now Has A Fillet Radius At Front Main Bearing Journal, " on Page 3. Make a reference to this article.

The No. 1 main bearing journal on all new, replacement crankshafts for 1693 Truck Engines now has a step at the front of the journal. See the illustration.

The area for the No. 1 main journal has been increased so that all of the main bearing journals on the crankshaft can be machined with the same grind stone. As a result, a small area adjacent to the taper for the pulley is not ground. This step will not cause stresses in the crankshaft, and the bearing will not make contact with the step.

Adaptable As: The new crankshaft is a direct replacement for the former crankshaft. The part number did not change.
