One-piece Panel Used For Oil Pan Sound Suppression

Usage:

3406 Truck Engines Without BrakeSaver

Description of Change: A new one-piece panel is available for installation as an attachment around the oil pan for sound suppression on 3406 Truck Engines without BrakeSavers. The new panel has adapters (or spacers) in eight holes to bolt directly to the bottom of the block. This makes it possible to use less parts for installation.

Formerly, two panels were used. Several brackets were used to fasten each panel to the oil pan. One panel went around the sump, and the other was for the shallow section of the pan.

The 3406 Truck Engines with BrakeSavers still use two suppression panels (two parts groups) on the oil pan. These pieces did not change.

Adaptable To: The new panels and mounting hardware are replacements for the former parts, or can be added to earlier machines. See topic "Installation".

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE: Use the procedure that follows to install the new panel.

1. Use the bolt holes in the new panel to find the four bolts that need to be removed from each side of the pan.

2. Remove the eight pan bolts, and fasten the panel to the pan with the new, longer bolts and hardened washers. See the Illustration.

3. If a fumes disposal tube is at the right rear, remove the angle. Fasten the angle to the right rear pan bolt with the long leg of the angle, and fasten the short leg of the angle to the clip around the tube.
