Use 6V4068 Tool Group To Machine Camshaft Thrust Face

Usage:

3208 Engines Equipped With Sleeve Metering Fuel Systems

The new 6V4068 Tool Group can be used to machine a counterbore and clearance face on the existing camshaft thrust face in housings for sleeve metering fuel systems on 3208 Engines. The counterbore and clearance around it are necessary to permit installation of a 9N5822 Thrust Washer. The 9N5822 Thrust Washer is used in current fuel systems to prevent damage to the housing caused by the camshaft. This thrust washer makes it possible to use housings with damaged camshaft thrust faces again.

To machine the counterbore and clearance it is necessary to disassemble the fuel system housing except for the front and rear camshaft bearings. These bearings must be checked to see if they have the correct specifications as given in the Service Manual. If a replacement of the bearings is necessary it must be done before the housing is machined for the thrust washer.

Special Instruction, Form SMHS7897 gives complete instructions and specifications for the use of the 6V4068 Tool Group.
