New 6V3060 EGR System Tester Group Available

Usage:

Caterpillar 3208 Truck Engines Equipped With Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR)

Low emission Caterpillar 3208 Truck Engines are equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system.

When an engine is first started and/or has no load, the EGR valve sends some of the exhaust gases back into the engine. This permits the hydrocarbons (fuel) that were not completely burned to go through combustion again.

As the load on the engine increases, less exhaust is put back through the engine, and more exhaust is sent through the exhaust system, into the air.

At full load, no exhaust gases are sent back through the engine; all exhaust gases go directly into the air.

A failure of the EGR system can cause a decrease in horsepower, too much smoke in the exhaust and, possibly, severe (bad) damage to the engine because the oil gets thick and does not flow, and the rings stick.

The 6V3060 EGR System Tester Group is available to check the operation of the main components in the EGR system.

Special Instruction Form No. SEHS7808, sent with each tester group, has complete instructions for use of the 6V3060 EGR System Tester Group.

The 6V3060 EGR System Tester Group can be used for both bench tests of EGR components and tests of the EGR system during engine operation. Selection of either the bench test or the on-engine test is made with a single switch.

The tester group has a built-in fixture for bench tests of the EGR switch covers, and it has a solenoid energizer (energy source) circuit for solenoid bench tests.

All cable assemblies necessary for on-engine tests are part of the tester group.

Four LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) tell the condition of the EGR system components. One LED tells when the full load contact is made in the fuel injection system. The other three LEDs tell when the EGR switch cover output is at "full EGR," "partial EGR" or "no EGR. "

The 6V3060 EGR System Tester Group needs a 12-to 16-volt, direct current, 3 ampere power source. An LED will light if the voltage is in the operation range. The tester group has in-circuit protection against too much voltage, reverse polarity and short circuits.
