Twelve Bolts Used In Drum Support Bearing Retainer {8227}

Usage:

CB-414 Vibratory Compactors

Description of Change: The retainer plate for the drum support bearing on CB-414 Vibratory Compactors is now fastened to the bearing housing with 12 instead of six bolts. See illustration. This keeps the retainer tighter and maintains better bearing adjustment.

The new drum bearing retainer plate and its 12 bolts.

NOTE: Some machines may have the new retainer plate and bearing housing with 12 holes, but have only six bolts installed. Anytime either drum is disassembled, use 12 bolts and lock-washers if the plate and housing have 12 holes.

Adaptable To: The new parts, used together, are directly adaptable to earlier CB-414 Vibratory Compactors.

Use the following procedure to adjust the bearings, regardless of whether six or 12 bolts are used:

1. Bolt the retainer plate to the bearing housing with four bolts, equally spaced.

2. Tighten these four bolts to 54 N·m (40 lb ft) while slowly turning the drum to seat the bearings.

3. Install a shim pack equal in thickness to the gap between the retainer plate and bearing housing, minus 0.03 to 0.13 mm (.002 to .005").

4. Put Loctite No. 262 on the bolts, and tighten all 12 (or six) to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).

5. Install 33360124 Lockwire in the bolt heads.
