Usage:
NOTE: Ensure the contact surfaces of the flywheel housing and the block are clean and free of any foreign material. Clean the contact surfaces with 8T9011 or 4C4079 Component Cleaner. Apply 1U8846 Gasket Maker on the contact surface of the flywheel housing. Put a 1.5 mm (.06 in) bead of 1U8846 Gasket Maker down the middle of the contact surface and around each bolt hole. Spread the bead of gasket maker into a thin even thickness over the contact surface.
(1) Tighten flywheel housing bolts with the procedure that follows:
a. Tighten bolts 1 through 24 in number sequence to a torque of ... 40 ± 10 N·m (29 ± 7 lb ft)
b. Retighten bolts 1 through 9 in number sequence to a torque of ... 135 ± 20 N·m (100 ± 15 lb ft)
c. Retighten bolts 10 through 24 in number sequence to a torque of ... 55 ± 10 N·m (40 ± 7 lb ft)
(2) Maximum permissible change from an exact vertical face (face runout) at 4 points (total indicator reading) ... 0.38 mm (.015 in)
NOTE: Tighten the plug on the side of the flywheel housing to a torque of ... 55 ± 14 N·m (40 ± 10 lb ft)
NOTE: Refer to Flywheel Housing Runout and Flywheel Housing Bore in Systems Operation, Testing & Adjusting for the correct methods of flywheel housing inspection.
