Cylinder Head Assembly

Usage:

Remove Cylinder Head Assembly

start by:

a) remove rocker shaft assembly and push rods

1. Remove the coolant from the cooling system for the engine.

2. Remove the oil pressure sensing line (2) from the engine.

3. Remove the oil bypass line (1) for the turbocharger.

4. Remove the oil supply line (5) for the turbocharger.

5. Remove the oil return line (3) for the turbocharger.

6. Remove the water supply line (4) from the exhaust manifold.

7. Put an identification mark on each wire and screw, and remove the wires (6) from the magneto.

8. Remove the governor control linkage (7) from the carburetor.

9. Remove the vent line (8).

10. Remove the bypass line (9) for the water temperature regulator.

11. Remove the aftercooler water return line (10) from the cylinder head.

12. Remove the aftercooler water supply line (11) from the cylinder head.

13. Remove the remaining fastening bolts for the cylinder head.

14. Remove the cylinder head assembly, using a hoist. Weight of cylinder head is 580 lbs. (263 kg).

Install Cylinder Head Assembly

1. Thoroughly clean the sealing surfaces of the cylinder head and cylinder block. Install a new cylinder head gasket on the block. Put the cylinder head into position on the cylinder block, using a hoist.

2. Loosen all of the adjusting screws to maximum valve clearance, on the rocker shaft assembly.

3. Put the push rods and rocker shaft assembly into position on the engine.


NOTICE

The dowel pins on each bracket of the rocker shaft assembly must be in alignment with the holes in the cylinder head assembly.


4. Put 4S9416 Anti-Seize Compound on the fastening bolts for the cylinder head.

5. Install the fastening bolts in the cylinder head assembly. Tighten the bolts to 115 lb.ft. (15,9 mkg) in number order as shown. Tighten the bolts to 175 ± 5 lb.ft. (24,2 ± 0,7 mkg) in number order. Again, tighten the bolts to 175 ± 5 lb.ft. (24,2 ± 0,7 mkg).

6. Turn the crankshaft until No. 1 piston is at top center of the compression stroke. Make adjustments to inlet valves 1, 2, & 4 and exhaust valves 1, 3, & 5. Turn the crankshaft 360°. Make adjustments to inlet valves 3, 5, & 6 and exhaust valves 2, 4, & 6. Inlet valve clearance is .015 in. (0,38 mm). Exhaust valve clearance is .025 in. (0,64 mm).

7. Install the aftercooler water return line (1), and water supply line (3) on the cylinder head assembly.

8. Install the governor control linkage (2) on the carburetor.

9. Install the vent line.

10. Install the bypass line for the water temperature regulator.

11. Install the wires (4) on the magneto.

12. Install the oil pressure sensing line.

13. Install the water supply line (6) and water return line on the exhaust manifold.

14. Install the oil return line (5), oil supply line, and oil bypass line for the turbocharger.

15. Fill the engine with coolant to correct level.

16. Install the valve cover and fastening bolts. Tighten the fastening bolts to 15 ± 3 lb.ft. (2,1 ± 0,4 mkg).
