Flywheel Housing

Usage:

Remove Flywheel Housing

preparatory steps:

a) remove flywheel

b) remove turbocharger

c) remove sea water pump drive group (marine engine only)

1. Remove the oil pan-to-flywheel housing mounting bolts.

2. Loosen the remaining oil pan and oil pan plate mounting bolts (1).

3. Attach a hoist and raise the rear of engine. Install spacers (2) between the oil pan plate and the cylinder block on both sides of the engine. Position blocks under rear of cylinder block, and lower engine onto the blocks.

4. Remove the starter.

5. Remove the three water pump flange-to-housing mounting bolts (3).

6. Remove the seven timing gear plate-to-flywheel housing mounting bolts (4).

7. Remove the oil cooler-to-flywheel housing mounting bolts (8).

8. Remove the five cover retaining bolts and nuts (5). Remove two oil junction plate retaining bolts (6).

9. Remove three timing gear plate-to-flywheel housing mounting bolts (7).

10. Remove the turbocharger support bracket (Industrial engine only).

11. Remove the three lone bolts (9) from engine rear lifting bracket.

12. Remove the sixteen remaining flywheel housing mounting bolts (10).

13. Attach a hoist and remove the flywheel housing-weight 350 lbs. (153,7 kg).

NOTE: If oil pan plate gasket was damaged during removal of flywheel housing, it will be necessary to remove the oil pan and oil pan plate in order to replace gasket.

14. Remove the crankshaft rear seal from the flywheel housing.

Install Flywheel Housing

1. Install a new flywheel housing-to-timing gear plate gasket. Trim the gasket flush with oil pan face of cylinder block.

2. Attach a hoist and position the flywheel housing on the engine.

3. Install the sixteen flywheel housing retaining bolts.

4. Install the three long bolts in engine rear lifting bracket.

5. Install the turbocharger support bracket (Industrial engine only).

6. Install the five cover retaining bolts and nuts. Install two oil junction plate retaining bolts.

7. Install the three timing gear plate-to-flywheel housing mounting bolts.

8. Install the oil cooler-to-flywheel housing mounting bolts.

9. Install the seven timing gear plate-to-flywheel housing mounting bolts on left side of engine.

10. Install the three water pump flange mounting bolts.

11. Install the starter.

12. Attach a hoist and raise rear of engine. Remove the spacers between cylinder block and oil pan plate. Remove the blocks from under rear of engine. Lower the engine onto rear supports.

13. Install the oil pan-to-flywheel housing mounting bolts. Tighten the remaining oil pan and oil pan plate mounting bolts.

concluding steps:

a) install crankshaft rear seal

b) install flywheel

c) install turbocharger

d) install sea water pump drive group (marine engine only)
