Idler Gear

Usage:

Idler Gear Removal

The planetary gear section must be removed from the marine gear housing before the idler gear can be removed. See the topic, PLANETARY GEAR SECTION, REMOVAL.


RIGHT SIDE IDLER GEAR
1. Bolt and lock (four). 2. Threaded holes (two). 3. Bearing cage.

3. Bearing cage. 4. Bearing inner races.

Depending on the marine gear reduction ratio, the idler gear can be either on the left or the right side in the marine gear housing. The removal is the same for either the left or the right side idler gear.

Remove four bolts and locks (1) from bearing cage (3).

Use forcing screws in the two threaded holes (2) to separate the bearing cage from the housing. Remove the bearing cage and the idler gear.

NOTE: Bearing inner races (4) are press fit on the gear hubs.

Idler Gear Installation

Bolts are used to force bearing cage (3) into position in the housing. Tighten and lock bolts (1).
