Planetary Section Assembly

Usage:

1. Set the planetary shaft and carrier on blocks with the shaft in the vertical position.

2. Lower the reduction gear housing over the carrier shaft before installing the roller bearing races.

3. Heat one of the tapered roller bearings in oil not to exceed 275° F (135° C). Install it on the shaft with the small end of the taper upward.


INSTALLING HEATED BEARING

4. Install the forward outer bearing race (cup downward). The outer bearing races are a slip fit in the housing.

5. Install the center section of the bearing assembly to space the outer races.

6. Install the bearing inner race spacer (5) into the housing. Lubricate seal rings (6) and the sealing surface to facilitate installation.

7. Install the last bearing outer race, taper roller bearing, outer race retainer (2) and companion flange (1) to complete the installation.

1-Companion flange. 2-Retainer. 3-Lip-type seals. 4-Spacer between outer races. 5-Spacer between inner races. 6-Piston ring-type seals.

8. Be sure the lips of seals (3) are installed with inner seal lip toward the inside and outer seal lip toward the outside.

NOTE: Heat the taper roller bearing in oil not to exceed 275° F (135° C) to facilitate installation.
