CB-514 VIBRATORY DRUM Caterpillar

Drum Support

Usage:

Remove Drum Support (Vibratory Side)

Start By:

a. remove drum assembly

NOTICE

Drum support components use elastic stop nuts in several places. After being disassembled, these nuts should be discarded and replaced with new parts.

1. Attach a hoist and chain to shock mount support (1). Weight of shock mount support is approximately 95 kg (210 lbs.).

2. Raise the hoist enough to support shock mount support (1). Remove the bolts, washers, and nuts securing the shock mounts to bearing housing support (8).

3. Use the hoist to carefully remove shock mount support (1) and shock mounts (7) from the drum support.

NOTICE

Check the condition of the rubber shock mounts. Replace any that show signs of severe cracking, fatigue, or breakage.

4. Remove shock mounts from shock mount support (1) if shock mounts are to be replaced.

5. Remove the bolts and washers holding the vibratory motor in place and remove the vibratory motor.

6. Slide vibratory coupling (11) out of bearing housing support (8).

7. Check the condition of bearing (6) as follows:

a. Attach a dial indicator to the drum head. Set the dial indicator actuator against bearing housing support (8), as shown.

b. Push bearing housing support (8) in, toward the drum, as far as possible.

c. Set the dial indicator to zero.

d. Pull bearing housing support (8) out, away from the drum, as far as possible.

e. Distance bearing housing support (8) moves should not exceed .23 mm (.009 in.). If movement is greater than this, replace bearing (6) located inside bearing housing support (8).

NOTE: For information about replacement of bearing (6), see Disassemble Drum Support Assembly (Vibratory Side).

8. Attach a hoist and chain to bearing housing support (8), this will be used to lift the drum support assembly. Weight of the drum support assembly is approximately 143 kg (315 lbs.).

9. Make matching scribe marks on bearing housing support (8), outer bearing housing (10), and inner bearing housing (14).

10. Remove the bolts and washers holding the drum support assembly to the drum. If necessary, raise the hoist slightly to remove load from bolts.

11. Insert three of the bolts, removed in the previous step, in the blind holes of outer bearing housing (10).

NOTICE

Do not allow the drum support to drop suddenly when free of the drum. The eccentric weight shaft (16) and shaft end (12) extend into the drum support and could be damaged if the drum support is dropped straight down.

12. Turn the bolts in equally until the drum support is free of the drum.

Install Drum Support (Vibratory Side)

1. Install shock mounts to shock mount support (1) if they were removed during disassembly.

2. Attach a hoist and chain to the drum support assembly. Weight of the drum support assembly is approximately 143 kg (315 lbs.).

3. Use the hoist to raise the drum support assembly. Move into place against inner bearing housing (14). Align the scribe marks on the drum support assembly with the scribe marks on inner bearing housing (14).

4. Secure the drum support assembly to inner bearing housing (14) using bolts and washers. Turn the eight bolts in equally drawing the drum support assembly into inner bearing housing (14). Use Loctite 262 on the bolts.

5. Align the splines on the inside of coupling (11) with the splines on shaft end (12). Slide coupling (11) into bearing housing support (8).

6. Move the vibratory motor in place against cover plate (2) and secure with bolts and washers. Use Loctite 262 on the bolts.

7. Attach a hoist and chain to shock mount support (1). Weight of shock mount support is approximately 95 kg (210 lbs.).

8. Use the hoist to raise shock mount support (1). Move into place against bearing housing support (8).

9. Secure the shock mounts to the drum support assembly with bolts, washers, and nuts.

End By:

a. install drum assembly

Disassemble Drum Support Assembly (Vibratory Side)

Start By:

a. remove drum support assembly (vibratory side)

1. Lay drum support assembly on clean, hard surface with cover plate (2) up.

2. Make matching scribe marks on cover plate (2) and bearing housing support (8).

3. Remove the bolts and washers holding cover plate (2) to bearing housing support (8).

4. Remove cover plate (2).

5. Remove the bolts and lock washers holding retainer plate (4) in place. Remove retainer plate (4) and shims (5).

6. Attach a hoist and chain to bearing housing support (8). Weight of drum support assembly is approximately 141 kg (310 lbs.).

7. Turn the drum support assembly over so bearing housing support (8) is on the bottom and outer bearing housing (10) is up.

8. Place three 3/4 in. N.C. x 5 in. long bolts and flat washers in the three threaded holes in outer bearing housing (10).

9. Attach a hoist and chain to outer bearing housing (12). Weight of outer bearing housing (10) is 52 kg (115 lbs.).

10. Turn bolts in equally until outer bearing housing (10) is free of bearing housing support (8).

11. Remove bolts, and flat washers from outer bearing housing (10).

12. Remove seal (9) from outer bearing housing support (8) and outer bearing housing (10).

13. Using a brass drift, tap the bearing race and outer bearing out of bearing housing support (8).

14. Remove bearing spacer from outer bearing housing (10).

15. Using a suitable puller, remove inner bearing half from outer bearing housing (10).

Assemble Drum Support (Vibratory Side)

1. Thoroughly clean outer bearing housing (10) and bearing housing support (8).

2. The bearing seating surface of outer bearing housing (10) must be free of grease or oil.

3. Make sure oil metering holes, in outer bearing housing (10) are clean and free of obstructions.

4. Attach a hoist and chain to outer bearing housing (10). Weight of outer bearing housing (10) is approximately 50 kg (110 lbs.).

5. Set outer bearing housing (10) on a clean, hard surface, plate side up.

NOTICE

Do not grease the seal assembly. Just apply oil to metal parts.

6. Replace seal assembly (9) in outer bearing housing (10).

7. Apply Loctite 680 to the bearing seating surface of outer bearing housing (10).

8. Slide the inner bearing onto outer bearing housing (10).

9. Press the bearing race into bearing housing support (8).

10. Attach a hoist and chain to bearing housing support (8). Weight of bearing housing support (8) is approximately 141 kg (310 lbs.).

11. Lower bearing housing support (8) onto outer bearing housing (10).

12. Slide the bearing spacer into outer bearing housing (12).

13. Slide the outer bearing onto bearing race installed in bearing housing support (8).

14. Measure the distance bearing assembly (6) sets beyond outer bearing housing (10). Assemble shims (7) to a thickness of .051 to .127 mm (.002 to .005 in.) less than the measured height.

15. Place shim pack (5) on bearing housing (10).

16. Place retainer plate (4) on outer bearing housing (10) and secure with bolts and washers. Apply Loctite 262 to the bolts, then tighten bolts alternately and torque to 90 N·m (65 ft. lbs.).

17. Pour 235 ml (8 oz.) of bearing oil over the bearing assembly.

18. Remove the o-ring on cover plate (2) and replace with a new part.

19. Install cover plate (2), aligning the scribe marks, on bearing housing support (10). Secure cover plate (2) using bolts and washers. Apply Loctite 262 to bolts and torque to 150 N·m (110 ft. lbs.).

End By:

a. install drum support assembly (vibratory side)

b. Install drum assembly
