Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Reports have been received that the governor pedal group is sticking and is not fully returning back to low idle when the operator foot is removed from the governor pedal group on the machines listed above.

Either the governor pedal group or the cable assembly to the engine may stick for the following reason:

  • Debris under the governor pedal group

  • Incorrect cable assembly routing

  • Damaged or kinked cable assembly

Solution

------ WARNING! ------

Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.

Report the failure through the CPI feedback tool in Service Information Management System (SIMSi) referencing CPI number 425291. Mention the inspection and adjustment procedure which you performed in the claim description.

Perform the following inspection and adjustment procedure:

Around the Governor Pedal Group

    Illustration 1g06431280

  1. Check around the governor pedal group for any build-up of debris. Clean the governor pedal group and check for the correct operation.

  2. Check the governor pedal group is not binding up on the floor mat at the pivot point. Adjust the mat if necessary.

  3. Disconnect the cable assembly from the bottom of the governor pedal group. Check the governor pedal group function when pressed and released slowly. If the governor pedal group works fine with the cable assembly released, continue to check the cable assembly and the routing.

  4. If the governor pedal group is still sticking without the cable assembly attached, clean and lubricate the governor pedal group. Again test the governor pedal group.

Under the Cab Floor

    (A) Cable assembly routing
    (B) Cable assembly

  1. Lift the cab floor plate and check the routing of the cable assembly (B).

  2. The cable assembly should be routed above all the other hoses and tubes. Refer to Illustration 2.

  3. If cable assembly is under, or between any other hoses or tubes, disconnect the cable assembly and re-route the cable assembly correctly.

    Illustration 3g06431435
    Cable assembly correct routing
    (B) Cable assembly

  4. Check the cable assembly routing towards the engine.

  5. The cable assembly (B) should NOT be between the frame and the return hoses, or between the frame and transmission fill tube. Refer to Illustration 3 for the correct routing.

  6. The cable assembly should run freely down the side of the engine. If you find in correct routing, re-route the cable assembly.

Under the Pedal

    (D) Groove
    (E) Bracket
    (D1) 127 mm (5.0 inch)
    (F) Retaining nut
    (G) Rubber retainer

  1. Check the cable assembly is clamped correctly in the last set of holes in the bracket (E) and the cable assembly is in the groove (D) on the clamp (C).

  2. Measure the distance (D1) from the clamp retaining nuts (F) and the rubber retainer (G). The distance (D1) should be approximately 127 mm (5.0 inch). The distance of the clamp retaining nut (F) and the rubber retainer (G) should allow a smooth curve of the cable assembly under the cab. If the clamp retaining nuts (F) and the rubber retainer (G) are in the wrong place and causing a sharp angle in the cable assembly, move the rubber retainer (G) to the correct position.

At the Engine-End of the Cable

    (H) Do not use the hole
    (J) Lock nut

  1. Check the cable assembly is connected to the correct hole in the fuel pump lever.

  2. The cable assembly should be connected to the hole that is nearest to the engine. Connecting the cable in the furthest hole can cause the outer cable assembly get cracked and fail. If the cable assembly is damaged in the area, replace the cable assembly.

  3. Remove the pin and disconnect the cable assembly from the pump. Check the cable assembly for the twist.

  4. If any twist is in the cable assembly, loosen the lock nut (J) and turn the cable assembly slightly in order to remove the twist. Re-tighten the lock nut (J).

Note: Do not install the cable assembly in wrong hole on the pump.

Cable Setting Check

    (K) Engine governor reaching the high idle stop
    (L) Push the governor pedal group down
    (M) Stop bolt
    (N) Lock nut

  1. Check the cable assembly is installed correctly. Check the governor pedal group moves freely and returns back to the stop position without sticking.

  2. Slowly depress the governor pedal group (L) by hand and ensure that the "High Idle" stop is reached at the governor.

  3. When the engine governor reaches the "High Idle" stop, there should be 2 mm (0.1 inch) clearance at the stop bolt (M) under the governor pedal group.

  4. Adjust the lock nut (N) as necessary to achieve 2 mm (0.1 inch) clearance. This ensures that the governor pedal group does not restrict the engine "High Idle" setting.

  5. Fully release the governor pedal group and ensure that the "Low Idle" stop is also reached at the engine governor.

If the Governor Pedal Group or Cable Assembly Is Still Sticking

  1. If the governor pedal group is still not returning and you are sure that:

    1. the governor pedal group area is clean of any debris.

    2. The routing and the setting of the cable assembly are correct.

  2. Remove the cable assembly from the machine and check the inner cable moves freely in the outer cable. If the movement is notch or sticking, replace the cable assembly and follow the routing and the setting procedure in the instruction.

  3. If the cable assembly moves freely without attached to the governor pedal group, but the governor pedal group still sticks, clean and lubricate the governor pedal group. Again check the governor pedal group.

  4. Ensure that the return spring on the top of the fuel injection is broken or missing.

  5. Check the routing and the position of the cable assembly on the engine governor.

  6. If all of the above is checked and the governor pedal group or cable assembly is still sticking, contact product support for further assistance.
