The Material Handling Boom ( 390-8759 Boom and Bearing As or 451-2853 Boom and Bearing As) may fail on the machines listed above. Cracks have been reported primarily at the boom nose area. The cause of the failure is under investigation.

Solution

Caterpillar is aware of this problem, but a permanent repair has not been defined. In the event of failure, contact your Dealer TC. Create a GDSN Product Health Service Request (SR) to receive instructions if the failed part can be repaired or has to be replaced by the same part number. Include this publication in the description and attach all relevant photos to the SR prior to submitting to Caterpillar.
