Configuring Load and Dump Switches
Note: This section is not applicable to a dual antenna excavator.
The office can configure the onboard software to accept a signal from a switch. For example, a machine operator might push a button to notify the onboard software that the bucket is being loaded.
Using a switch improves the quality of productivity information. For example, without load/dump switches, the onboard software triggers load or dump functions using information from the design. When a shovel stops over a material, the onboard software interprets this action as an indication that the machine is loading that material. When the shovel stops over a mined-out area, the onboard software interprets this action as an indication that the machine is dumping.
With load/dump switches, users can be sure that a load or a dump is recorded precisely.
The following switches may be available:
Load - Notifies the onboard software that the bucket is being loaded
Dump - Notifies the onboard software that material is being dumped in a truck
Load/Dump - Alternates between Loads and Dumps
Send Truck - Invokes the Send Truck command
Clear Truck - Invokes the Clear Truck command
Engage Ripper - Notifies the onboard software that the ripper is down
Reverse Machine - Notifies the onboard software that the machine is reversing
Launch Menu Item - Launches the menu item that is selected
For more information on switches, talk to the Terrain Site Champion.
Note: This section is not applicable to a dual antenna excavator.
By default, load and dump switches are disabled.
The onboard software interprets combinations of load/dump switches as follows:
Load disabled/dump disabled - The onboard software triggers loading and dumping.
Load disabled/dump enabled - Trigger each dump using a switch. The onboard software triggers loading using information from the design.
Load enabled/dump disabled - Trigger loading by using a switch. The onboard software triggers dumping using information from the design.
Load enabled/dump enabled - Trigger loading and dumping using a switch.
Manually Triggering a Dig State
The dig state indicates whether the machine is "Digging", "Idle", or "Dumping". The dig state is controlled by information about the bucket angle, combined with information from either pressure switches or a physical switch or a button. The onboard software then uses the dig state to indicate whether a bucket is loaded or empty.
Manual Dig State - Overrides the dig state |
Menu - Opens the main menu |
To change the dig state manually, use one of the following methods:
Manual Dig State - Touch the button.
Menu - Open the main menu and select "Ore Control" > "Manual Dig".
A physical dig switch - Activate the switch.
The dig state indicates that the machine is "Digging".
Use a manual dig state under the following conditions:
- The machine does not have a pressure sensor.
- More control over triggering a dig state is required.
Example 1 - When finishing a pass at the bottom of a trench or pit, the pressure might not be high enough to trigger the dig state. With no dig state indicated in the onboard software, the final pass is not recorded. Use a physical switch to change the dig state to "Digging". Complete the cleanup pass, and reselect the switch to return the dig state to "Idle".
Example 2 - When trying to groom a high wall for shape and slope, the bucket angle will not trigger the dig state. Use a physical switch when approaching the last pass. Closely clean the slope using the Bar Graph or Digital window. When the bucket angle is curled slightly more than flat (for example, 10 degrees) reselect the switch. The control of the dig state is returned to the pressure switches.
Note: Information from bucket angle and pressure switches overrides a manual dig operation.
The onboard software allows users to mark measuring points for various applications as the machine works.
Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, M0102733, "Measuring Points (Productivity)" for more instruction on both the setup and the use of the measure point tools.
The onboard software works using the following Site Awareness systems:

- Detect
- Command

Updating Ore Status Files Automatically
The office can configure the onboard software to update the different ore status files automatically. The files can be based on either the group of the primary ore design or else on the elevation of the machine.
Reference: For additional information about the features that are required for setting up automatic ore status maintenance using elevation or group mode, refer to Systems Operation, M0102735, "Cat® Terrain v7 for Grading and Loading", "Automatic Ore Status Maintenance".
Note: When "Automatic Ore" status is enabled, the onboard software does not allow the user to manipulate an ore status file. Manipulation includes renaming, activating, or deactivating an off-board file using Cat MineStar System or any onboard file using a file selection function.

When the machine has been within the new elevation range for a specified amount of time, the following occurs: A new ore status file is created by the onboard software or a previously generated ore status file is set as the primary file. The operator will then need to set the ore design file associated with the new elevation to the primary file.
