Personal injury or death can result from grease and oil coming out of the relief valve.

Grease and oil are under high pressure coming out of the relief valve and can penetrate the body.

Do not watch the relief valve to see if grease is escaping. Watch the track or track adjustment cylinder to see if the track is being loosened.

Make sure the vent holes are clean before the tension is released on the track.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Put the machine on a flat level surface.

  2. Release the tension on the track. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Track Adjustment - Adjust" for the proper procedure.

  3. Place suitable cribbing and Tooling (A) under the track assembly. Use Tooling (A) to raise the track assembly off track carrier roller (1).

  4. Loosen setscrew (2) that secures track carrier roller (1) to the mounting bracket.

  5. Remove track carrier roller (1). The weight of track carrier roller (1) is approximately 6 kg (13 lb).

  1. Be sure that the shaft of the track carrier roller is clean and free of dirt. Be sure that the bore in the mounting bracket on the undercarriage frame is clean and free of dirt.

  2. Position the track carrier roller in the mounting bracket. Adjust the track carrier roller until Distance (B), the distance between the outside face of the mounting bracket and the carrier roller, is 4.5 mm (0.18 inch).

  3. After adjusting the position of track carrier roller (1) in the mounting bracket, apply Tooling (B) on the threads of setscrew (2). Install setscrew (2). Tighten setscrew (2) to a torque of 50 ± 10 N·m (37 ± 5 lb ft).

  4. Be sure that track carrier roller (1) rotates smoothly by hand. Slowly lower the track assembly onto track carrier roller (1) with Tooling (A).

  5. Adjust the track tension. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Track Adjustment - Adjust" for the correct adjustment procedure.
