The swivel is mounted to the center of the upper housing. The transfer of hydraulic oil from the input lines in the upper housing to the hydraulic cylinder and the rotation motor in the lower housing is the purpose of this component. The swivel allows the work tool to rotate 360 degrees without causing damage to the cylinder lines. Because rotor (3) is not fixed in place on stator (2), the rotor is free to rotate on the shaft of the stator. This allows the upper housing to remain stationary while the lower housing rotates.

Oil can enter the swivel at port (4) or port (5). The direction of the function (open or close) that was selected by the operator determines the point of entry of the oil. When oil enters port (5), the oil flows along the passage in stator (2) and out port (6) to the cylinder. Return oil will then flow back into port (1) from the cylinder. The oil flows through the passage in stator (2) and out port (4) to the hydraulic tank.

When oil enters port (4), the oil flows along the passage in stator (2) and out port (1) to the cylinder. Return oil will then flow back into port (6) from the cylinder. The oil flows through the passage in stator (2) and out port (5) to the hydraulic tank.

Oil for the rotation circuit can enter the swivel at port (7) or port (9). The direction of the function (rotation) that was selected by the operator determines the point of entry of the oil. When oil enters port (7), the oil flows along the passage in stator (2) and out port (8) to the rotation motor. Return oil will then flow back into port (10) from the rotation motor. The oil flows through the passage in stator (2) and out port (9) to the hydraulic tank.

When oil enters port (9), the oil flows along the passage in stator (2) and out port (10) to the rotation motor. Return oil will then flow back into port (8) from the rotation motor. The oil flows through the passage in stator (2) and out port (7) to the hydraulic tank.
