New Rework Procedure Now Used for the Engine Wiring Harness on Certain 793D Off-Highway Trucks to Allow Air Conditioning to Function {1408}

Usage:

793D FDB
Off-Highway Truck/Tractor
793D (S/N: FDB1-UP)

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a solution if found, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

On Certain 793D Off-Highway Trucks, the engine wiring harness and air conditioning jumper harness are not compatible with the chassis wiring.

A 520-7380 Engine Harness As and 520-7381 Engine Harness As were sold through the parts system to dealers and installed on reman engines. This change relocated the A/C pressure switches to the cab however, the chassis changes are not yet available.

Solution

------ WARNING! ------

Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.

Any engine with 520-7381 Engine Harness As will need to be reworked to allow the A/C to be functional. The 520-7381 Engine Harness As will need to be replaced with the 364-9120 Switch Harness As.

In addition to this change, two extra 16 gage wires will need to be routed from the engine interface connector (left rear of engine) to the jumper harness connection (right front of engine). Refer to Illustration 3 for the jumper wire pin locations.

Note: Engines with the former 457-9172 Engine Harness As and 364-9120 Switch Harness As will function properly. No action is needed for this wiring combination.

Table 1 shows the required parts for this rework procedure.

Illustration 3 shows the proposed field rework. The jumper wires that will need to be installed, connect pins 9 and 10 of the Engine/AC Harness Interface, to pins 21 and 31 of the Engine Interface Connector/Machine Interface Connector.
