Plate and Friction Disc Failures May Occur Within Clutch Six of the Transmission Planetary on Certain C-Series Articulated Trucks {3054, 3160}

Usage:

735C LFJ
Articulated Truck
735C (S/N: LFJ1-UP; TFJ1-UP)
740C EJECTOR (S/N: LFN1-UP; TFN1-UP)
745C (S/N: LFK1-UP; TFK1-UP)

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is available, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Certain 735C, 740C EJ, and 745C Articulated Trucks have reported failures to components within clutch six of the transmission planetary. 6V-8337 Bolts securing the clutch six housing in place may become loose causing interference with clutch piston travel. The increased friction is causing 353-4888 Plates to warp and 353-3952 Friction Discs to become glazed as a result of excessive heat.

As an interim solution, apply Loctite® 243TM Blue Threadlocker to the threads of 11 bolts (164) during installation. Bolts (164) should be tightened to a torque of 28 N·m (21 lb ft) in an alternating sequence 180° apart.

Note: Retorque 11 bolts (164) to verify that each bolt is tightened to the correct torque specification.

Note: For additional installation instructions of the transmission planetary, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, UENR4227, " Transmission Planetary - Assemble".
