Propulsion lever (1) is on the right console. The propulsion lever provides input to the machine ECM through the controller area network lines. The machine ECM uses this input signal as one of the parameters for parking brake control. The machine ECM also uses the input signal from the propulsion lever to determine the desired speed and direction.

The center position of propulsion lever (1) is the NEUTRAL position. If the position of the propulsion lever is inappropriate for the current machine conditions, display (2) shows an error message.

The desired travel direction is set to forward when the propulsion lever is moved from the center and toward the front of the machine. The desired travel direction is set to reverse when the propulsion lever is moved from the center and toward the rear of the machine. The farther the operator moves the control lever out of the NEUTRAL position, the greater the desired travel speed.

Parking brake switch (3) and the keypad are on the right console. The machine ECM directly monitors input from the parking brake switch. The keypad communicates with the machine ECM through the controller area network lines.

Parking brake switch (3) is a rocker switch with two positions. The parking brake switch is in the ON position when the front of the switch is pushed down. The switch is in the OFF position when the rear of the switch is pushed down.

The ECM uses the signal from parking brake switch (3) as one of the control parameters for the sequence valve solenoid.

The parking brake is engaged when parking brake switch (3) is in the ON position.

The keypad contains the following switches in the propulsion system:

  • Increase speed switch (4)

  • Decrease speed switch (5)

  • Propulsion mode switch (6)

Increase speed switch (4) and decrease speed switch (5) scale the desired machine speed. Propulsion speed indicators (7) provide the operator with an indication of the currently selected scale factor. The scale factor ranges from zero to 100 percent. When the scale factor is zero, none of the propulsion speed indicators are illuminated. When the scale factor is 100 percent, all the indicators are illuminated. Each indicator represents a change in the scale factor of approximately 14 percent.

Each time the operator actuates one of the speed switches, a pop-up window appears on display (2). The pop-up window shows the currently chosen scale factor. The machine ECM stores the last active scale factor in memory. This action allows the system to start up at the last chosen scale factor after the engine start switch has been cycled through the OFF position.

Propulsion mode switch (6) allows the operator to change the propulsion mode from low to high. With each depression of the switch, the machine ECM toggles the propulsion mode.

Propulsion mode indicators (8) provide the operator with an indication of the currently selected mode. When the propulsion mode is set to low, the bottom propulsion mode indicator is illuminated. When the propulsion mode is set to high, both propulsion mode indicators are illuminated.

Each time the operator changes the propulsion mode, a pop-up window appears on display (2). The pop-up window shows the currently chosen mode. The machine ECM stores the currently chosen mode in memory. This action allows the system to start up in the last chosen propulsion mode after the engine start switch has been cycled through the OFF position.
