  1. Use a suitable press to Install bearings (34) to shaft (33). The bearings are serviced only as a kit to maintain proper bearing preload.

    Illustration 2g00988447

  2. Install retaining ring (32) to shaft (33).

    Illustration 3g00988580

  3. Install seal (22) into cover (21). Install shims (23), cover (21), and retaining ring (20) onto shaft assembly (33).

    Illustration 4g06128513

  4. Use a vernier caliper to measure the bearing assembly. The correct dimension is 80.3 + 0.0 − 0.100 mm (3.16 + 0.00 − 0.004 inch). This measurement determines the correct angle of the rotating group.

  5. Add shims or subtract shims (23), if necessary.

  6. Once the correct dimension is achieved, remove retaining ring (20), cover (21), and shims (23) from shaft (33).

    Illustration 5g00988444

  7. Install pin (30) and pistons (31) to plate (29). The piston rings are nonserviceable separately to the pistons.

    Illustration 6g00988443

  8. Install screws (28) to the shaft. Install plate (29) and the pistons to the shaft. Apply Tooling (F) to screws (28). Install screws (28). Tighten the screws to a torque of 15.5 ± 1.5 N·m (137 ± 13 lb in).

  9. Install spring (26) to barrel (25).

    Illustration 8g00988441

  10. Install barrel (25) to the pistons.

    Illustration 9g00988592

  11. Raise the temperature of housing (3) to 80 °C (176 °F). Lower the temperature of rotating group (24).

  12. Install rotating group (24) into housing (3). Do not allow the barrel to separate from the pistons during the installation procedure.

  15. Use Tooling (A) to Install retaining ring (20).

    Illustration 13g00940683

  16. Install plate (5) into the housing.

    Illustration 14g00991078

  17. Place housing (3) into a soft jawed vise. Install Tooling (G) onto housing (3). Use Tooling (D) to measure the depth to the plate. Take this measurement in more than one location. Tighten the bolt on Tooling (G). This will push the plate and the barrel downward. Continue downward until resistance is met. Do not use force. Again measure the depth to the plate. Record the difference between the two measurements. Then subtract 0.20 ± 0.05 mm (0.008 ± 0.0020 inch) from the measurement. This is the correct thickness of shim (23). Remove Tooling (G).

  18. Remove plate (5) from the housing.

    Illustration 16g00988385

  19. Use Tooling (A) to remove retaining ring (20).

  20. Remove cover (21).

    Illustration 18g00988387

  21. Remove O-ring seal (22) and shims (23) from the housing.

    Illustration 19g00988787

  22. Use Tooling (B) to remove rotating group (24) from the housing. Do not allow the barrel to separate from the pistons during the removal procedure.
