As part of a continuous improvement project in the Service Information Division at Caterpillar, a change is being made to how serial numbers are displayed in Truck Engine News.
Currently, the Truck Engine News list all serial numbers as 1 and Up at the beginning of the article. The serial number breaks for the "Effective" truck engines are then defined within a table or list in the article.
The new standard will remove the "Effective" tables and lists, and place the serial number breaks for the "Adaptable to" engines at the beginning of the article. The following statement will then be added: "The following changes are adaptable to the products within the listed serial numbers, and are effective with all products after the listed serial numbers."
There may be special situations where the "Adaptable to" serial numbers are not easily defined. In these cases the serial numbers will be listed as 1 and Up at the beginning of the article, and a table or list will be used to define the serial number breaks for the "Effective" truck engines.
Moving the serial number breaks to the beginning of the article will change how information is presented when searching on SIS web. When a search is done with a specific truck engine serial number, only the information that is adaptable to that truck engine will be shown. The information can still be found for the effective truck engines by doing a search with the serial number prefix only.
