Open Crankcase Ventilation System May Experience Freezing on Certain C13, C15, and C18 Generator Set Engines {107F}

Usage:

C15 T4A
Generator Set
C13GENSET (S/N: X3M1-UP)
C15 GEN SET (S/N: T4A1-UP; X5M1-UP)
C18 GEN SET (S/N: X5F1-UP; KEJ1-UP)
XQ375 (S/N: X3F1-UP)

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Certain C13, C15, and C18 generator set engines may experience freezing of the open crankcase ventilation (OCV) system if operated in a location above 40 degrees North Latitude. This freezing may result in higher than normal crankcase pressure.

Solution

Until an optional insulated/heated OCV kit is available for cold climates, make sure that the fumes disposal hose has a continuous downhill slope to promote drainage (eliminate low spots). Also, install OCV insulation as shown in Illustration 2.
