Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Turn the fuel supply to the OFF(1) position and turn the power disconnect switch to the OFF.

  2. Disconnect the fuel line (not shown) to the ARD manifold from both ends.

  3. Disconnect all harness assemblies from fuel priming pump (4).

  4. Disconnect hose assembly (2) and hose assembly (1).

  5. Remove bolts (3) and fuel priming pump assembly (4).

  6. Remove bolts (6) and manifold (5).

  7. Remove locknuts (7) and harness assembly (8) from the terminal studs.

    Note: Write down the polarity. The polarity is designated by “+” and “-” signs around the terminal studs.

  8. Remove seal (9) and pump assembly (10).

  9. Remove backup rings (11), seal (12), and seal (13).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install fuel priming pump (4) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten locknuts (7) to a torque of 6 ± 1 N·m (53 ± 9 lb in).

    2. Use two people to flush the fuel pump and the fuel line into a suitable container for disposal. The fuel pump can be activated by turning on the key or pressing the manual switch. The manual switch, if available, is on the primary fuel filter base.
