Turbocharger Cartridge - Remove

Removal Procedure For The NA 297 Turbocharger Cartridge

Start By:

  1. Remove the turbocharger.


NOTICE

Check the turbocharger's nameplate for the model. If the model or type on the turbocharger's nameplate reads NA 297 or Napier 297, use the removal procedure for the NA 297 Turbocharger Cartridge.


Note: Before you remove the turbocharger cartridge, the gas outlet housing must be supported. Severe damage will occur to the housing and the turbine if the housing is not secured.

  1. Remove exhaust adapter (1) from the turbocharger.

  2. Disconnect the speed sensor connection.

  3. Disconnect the turbocharger wash group, if necessary.

  4. Remove the alternate oil drain line, if necessary.

  5. Disconnect the alternate oil feed, if necessary.

  6. Attach a suitable lifting device to bearing housing (2).

  7. Remove the safety bolts that connect bearing housing (2) and gas outlet housing (3).

  8. Remove the nuts and washers that connect the compressor housing and gas outlet housing (3).

  9. Raise the turbocharger in order to support the weight. The weight of the turbocharger is approximately 400 kg (880 lb).

  10. Remove mounting bolts (4).

    Note: Ensure that the turbocharger cartridge remains level. Damage may occur if the turbocharger cartridge does not remain level.

    Note: Pusher bolts may be used in order to remove the turbocharger cartridge from gas outlet housing (3).

  11. Remove turbocharger cartridge (5) from gas outlet housing (3).

    Note: The nozzle may be removed from the compressor end.

  12. Remove the capscrews and lock washers from the shroud assembly.

  13. Remove the remaining capscrews and lock washers from the shroud assembly. Remove the shroud assembly.

  14. Remove the capscrews and lock washers that secure the nozzle.

  15. The nozzle can now be removed, cleaned, and inspected for damage.
